The Auckland Art Gallery recently had an exhibit that I couldn’t miss: Frida & Diego – Art & Life in Modern Mexico.
Growing up, my grandmother loved Frida and had several copies of her art in her home. I had never been to a Frida collection, so I was very intrigued.
The exhibition started with a brief history of what was going on in the world and noted influential commissioners in Mexico. It was because of these people’s support that allowed Frida to have a successful career.
Frida is known for her self portraits. They were stunning in real life!
Not knowing much about Frida’s life, it was interesting to learn about her miscarriages and how that affected her art.
All in all I thought it was a really well done collection and touched on a lot of topics; government, war, beauty and culture.
Have you seen Frida Kahlo works in person? What did you think?
