RL Grime – Logan Campbell Centre, Auckland

Opening Song

The last time RL Grime came to New Zealand was July 2017. Just like last time, I bought tickets way in advance. RL is huge in America, and normally acts like him only come to NZ with festivals, so it is nice to have a lower ticket price to see only who you want.

BAAUER

At first it was going to be RL Grime and GoldLink. GoldLink is a rapper and we missed his last concert in Auckland a couple months ago because it sold out. My boyfriend really wanted to see him, thus another reason for buying these tickets so early.

About a month before the concert they announced that GoldLink was no longer coming and he was being replaced by Buddy. Buddy is an up and coming rapper from California. I pulled up his Spotifiy and I did actually recognize a few songs. It was also announced that BAAUER would join the lineup. I was excited it was another DJ, but I had already seen him at Pitch in Amsterdam in 2013 and RnV last year.

Despite the concert being on a Wednesday night it was sold out. I’ve been to this concert hall many times: Diplo/Post Malone, Mac Miller, What So Not and Lil Dicky. What was interesting about this show was that they did not allow fans to go upstairs. As stated in previous reviews of this venue, I like to start on the dance floor and then migrate up top. This is so I can get a better view & photos (I’m short) and so I can cool off.

Other than not being able to go upstairs it was an amazing show. I thought RL had a better performance this year (still not many graphics), however I preferred it at the other venue as it was a little more intimate. We missed Buddy, and were bummed about it, however Baauer put on an awesome opening show and got everyone pumped for RL.

TIP: We all know drinks are much more expensive at shows. Sneak in a flask and save money!

Who is the one person or band you would see over and over?!
