The Nutcracker Ballet at The Civic

What better way to get in the Christmas spirit than the Nutcracker? Last Friday I went to The Civic Theatre for the first time, and I was blown away. The theatre itself is ornate and has tons of details. Located downtown, right on Queen Street, its easy for public transport and has a large parking lot underneath the theatre.

My friends and I had nosebleeds, but when you walked in you felt so close to the night sky painted on the ceiling. It was not a full show and the seats were comfy.

The show it’s self was great. The Civic has great acoustics and we were able to hear the orchestra in the pit amazingly. The Royal New Zealand ballet had a wide range of dancers and it was interesting to see the range in age and cultures. There was one 20 minute intermission, with the entire show being about 2.5 hours.

I cannot wait to go to another show here! It also opened my eye to more ballets, and peaked my interest in seeing more live jazz (and even picking up my clarinet again).

TIP: Bring in food for snacks in a big bag. They did not check bags so we saved on concession prices. Also, invest in some binoculars. Nosebleeds may be the most affordable, however, they are not the best for the near-sited.

The Civic had a Thailand Temple feel and theme

Have you seen the Nutcracker?
