Philly Native. University of Richmond Grad. I’m talking about Lil Dicky, who made his first NZ performance on Wednesday, July 11th. He performed at the same venue as Diplo and Mac Miller: Logan Campbell Centre. Being from Philadelphia, and my boyfriend from Richmond, we were repping real hard!
We ended up pre-gaming at a friends house, walking over and then meeting more friends from RnV (which was nice to see them again in a concert setting.) Once we heard the music we all rushed in just as he got on stage. His second song was the New Zealand National Anthem and the crowd went crazy! It was emotional and made the crowd feel as one.
After that he got up to his normal tricks and called girls up to the stage. I saw him back in 2016 at Camp Bisco and walked away after he was using derogatory words toward women. This time it was much more comical as he was giving a lap dance during “Lemme Freak.”
The crowd went crazy for “Freaky Friday” and he gave a shout out to Kiwi’s for making it the first country to hit number one! Another crowd favorite was “Save Dat Money” and “Pillow Talk.”
I had a great evening this time around, which explains the lack of photos. I will say that the pit for rap and hip-hop concerts are not the same as EDM crowds. I did not like the rudeness and pushiness so I headed upstairs to have a better view and have my own space.
Tip: Don’t like my suggestion for a concert fanny pack? Get a sleeve that sticks to the back of your phone. This one is durable and stretches depends on what you put in it: cash, cards, chap stick, etc!
Have you seen someone in concert more than once, and the experience was different from the first? Good or bad?
